DRAA is a non-profit community service organisation established to provide retirement accommodation for residents within the Darlington district over the age of 60.
Priority is given to people who have limited means and need accommodation at lower than market cost, while wanting to maintain their existing community and social relationships within Darlington and may need the companionship and support that a small retirement community can provide.
Darlington Glen Retirement Village currently consists of five free standing independent living villas in Pine Terrace, Darlington, near to the Village facilities and public transport.
The Glen is in part a resident-funded project, subject to the terms of the Retirement Villages Act 1998.
Residents provide DRAA with an interest-free loan for the term of their occupancy, considerably less than market value. Residents also pay operating costs fortnightly to cover such items as rates and charges, building maintenance and building insurance.
The loan, less a sum determined by the length of occupancy, is repaid when the villa is released.
The DRAA committee meets every two months with a resident representative as part of the committee. It holds an Annual General Meeting.

The Darlington Club
 |
Contact:Chris Pemberton
Telephone: 9252 0154 |
The Darlington Club was formed in June 2004 after a well-attended public meeting, convened by Darlington Residents and Ratepayers Association (DRRA), overwhelming endorsed the concept.
The idea arose because of Darlington’s lack of a focal meeting point where residents could get together and newcomers to the area meet others from the local community. A comparison was drawn with the role of the traditional English village pub.
Starting with a small group of enthusiasts, club membership has grown to approximately 140. Membership is limited to residents of Darlington or those with a close affiliation to the suburb. A formal constitution has been adopted. In November 2005, following negotiations with Mundaring Shire, the club moved into its current headquarters in the Darlington Lesser Hall. The area has been attractively furnished and is available for use by other groups when not required by the club.
The club’s objectives are:
- To provide the means and facilities for Darlington residents to meet;
- To encourage friendships through the medium of social and community activities;
- To promote the well-being of the community of Darlington;
The club meets every Friday evening from 6.00pm – 9.00pm. Members and guests bring their own refreshments. Once a month a local music group provide entertainment until midnight.
As well as these regular weekly ‘sundowners’ the club arranges a wide variety of other social events, including dinners, wine tasting, BBQs, games nights, an annual Christmas party (complete with Santa), New Year’s Eve party, and many more. For the past three years we have run the wine tent at the annual Darlington Arts Festival.
The club encourages family participation. Children (appropriately supervised) are welcome at most events.
A diary of social events appears each month in the Darlington Review.
The club is managed by a committee of volunteers, elected on an annual basis. Current members are:
Michael Jones (President)
Ian Scrimshaw (Vice-President)
Chris Pemberton (Secretary)
Cliff Burns (Treasurer)
Glen Whisson
Carolyn Staveley
Teresa Tierney
Margaret McCarthy
Edwina Carter
Ken Rich
Anyone interested in finding out more about the Club is very welcome to drop in to one of the Friday evening sundowners, or contact the club secretary, Chris Pemberton, on 9252 0154.
Glen Forrest Sports Club Inc
Glen Forrest Sports Club Inc
According to local historian Ian Elliot (“Mundaring –A History of the Shire” 1983), the Glen Forrest Sports Club started life as “The Glen Forrest Bowling and Croquet Club” in the late twenties. This was the brainchild of the then stationmaster M.J. Morgan. The chosen site in McGlew Road has been the home of the Glen Forrest Sports Club ever since, although the croquet seems to have disappeared.
Lawn bowls became increasingly popular and has been joined by other leisure pursuits such as pool, darts and bridge. The Glen Forrest Cricket Club also makes its home at Glen Forrest. Today, Glen Forrest is a small but friendly club and I have dubbed it the “Hills’ best-kept secret”, as many of the locals are not aware of its attributes! In the monthly reports, I will be talking about the different sections of the Club, highlighting any special events and how to become a member, if you are so inclined.
